Group photo taken during the workshop. Noumea, New Caledonia A Coral Reef Fisheries Workshop workshop was organized by the WorldFish Center and held at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in Nouméa, New Caledonia, on December 14 and 15 2005, with funding from the MacArthur Foundation. Workshop participants included staff from the SPC Marine Resources Division, who are involved in the Pacific Regional Oceanic and Coastal Fisheries (PROCFish) project, the WorldFish Center staff from the regional office in Nouméa and from ReefBase in Penang, Malaysia, as well as representatives from FishBase, Coral Reef Initiative for the South Pacific (CRISP), Gillett, Preston and Associates Inc., and the United Nations Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre. The workshop was held to develop a framework for an online coral reef fisheries portal, to be a part of ReefBase. Structured presentations, working group sessions, and plenary discussions provided concrete guidelines for a coral reef fisheries portal as a multidisciplinary resource for fisheries managers and other stakeholders, providing a central repository for succinct, timely information on a range of topics to help manage costal resources in a sustainable way.
